India retailed 25,57,234 vehicles in June 2026, up 21.83% year-on-year and 1.03% higher than May 2026. In fact, every major vehicle segment posted its best-ever June, with tractors close behind at their second-best June on record.

• Passenger vehicles: 4,10,853 units, up 28.63% YoY from 3,19,412 units in June 2025 — the strongest June the PV segment has ever had.
• Two-wheelers: 18,28,458 units, up 21.22% YoY, still the volume backbone of India's auto retail market.
• Three-wheelers: 1,20,889 units, up 16.2% YoY, a segment closely tied to last-mile mobility and small commercial demand.
• Commercial vehicles: 90,972 units, up 16.88% YoY, a solid signal for freight and infrastructure activity.

The Quiet Headline: Alternative Fuels Cross 40%

Here's the line that matters most: for the first time ever, CNG, hybrid, and electric vehicles together made up more than 40% of all passenger vehicle retail in a single month. So petrol and diesel are no longer the automatic default.

This shift didn't happen overnight. Instead, it's the combined effect of GST 2.0 pulling CNG and small-car pricing down, a wider hybrid line-up from Maruti, Toyota, and now Honda, plus EV prices finally dropping past early-adopter territory.

• It's broad-based. Every category — PV, two-wheeler, three-wheeler, CV, and tractor — grew. Therefore, this points to genuine, economy-wide demand rather than one segment carrying the whole number.
